It's a sign of the times when the intern that joins your senior management team for six months knows more about cryptocurrency, blockchain and the latest innovations than most senior leaders - and is a proof point for exactly why SAP set up the Internship programs in Ireland. Colm joined our team as part of his degree with University Limerick and worked closely with all areas of the business to drive our global communications and social media framework. During that time, Colm impressed me with his creativity, enthusiasm and ability to understand and master complex tasks within a fast paced, deadline orientated industry. Often times the last to leave the office, Colm created and delivered several initiatives to support digital transformation within the team and wider SAP Galway & Dublin. No doubt a talent for the future, I look forward to seeing his career progression once he graduates.

Working in New York City, my main role with Drex was a construction estimator. Focused on client outreach, both maintaining the current relationships with clients online / over the phone and attracting new clients through accurate and effective contract bidding. Daily, I would prepare rough order of magnitude estimates for projects by analyzing costs such as material, labour, required permits, bid documentation and specifications for each project while answering cold calls from potential clients. Nurturing client relations through coherent communication and quality assurance. I would negotiate gainful pricing with the client while maintaining and enhancing services. Weekly, I created and published content designed to highlight the project progression and expansion. I also redesigned the company website through the use of Wix. Show less

With the bar located near the heart of Times Square. Tourists, locals, and commuters frequented our Irish hotel bar for a touch of home comfort. Enhancing the customer's experience was priority No.1, which myself and the other staff achieved through cohesive teamwork, playful banter, and seasoned local knowledge. I processed daily sales receipts while also filing weekly payroll reports. I cataloged and reported weekly meeting minutes with various stakeholders. Even increased sales and operational productivity with the effective design, implementation, and promotion of event specific menu options, pricing, and information through both online and offline approaches. I would also onboarded new staff through training and mentorship. Show less

My duties included a full complement of front desk activities in a 34-story, luxury rental building on Manhattan’s upper east side. I also worked as a porter during my time with the company which involved a wide variety of general cleaning and maintenance work. These included the overseeing of guest check-ins, escorting residents to their room, assessing their ongoing needs and fulfilling requests. Assiting in the training of new bar staff and wait staff. Monitoring the cash flow and recording daily intakes from bar and restaurant cash registers. Also bartending and waiting, as needed. As part of my role as a Global Marketing Communications Assistant in Partner Service Delivery (PSD), I learned about many different areas of marketing with a focus on the digital side. I worked as part of a virtual team with the goal of driving PSD through their digital transformation. Not only changing the way services were delivered but changing the mindset of customers was at the heart of this. As PSD's Social Media Manager this involved scheduling posts frequently and reinventing the social media strategy to drive inbound efforts. This included developing content and relationships to share information that was relevant to the audience and ensured that this was posted at the right time in the right place. These efforts enabled us to reach set KPIs on all our channels. Creating corporate videos for PSD became an interesting facet of my role. I used video to highlight updates, services, and events. In addition to this, my role involved graphic design for which I created newsletters, e-mag publications, image editing, video creation, powerpoint presentations, reports, and blog posts. Expanding my role lead to the filming and editing of the SAP Ireland 2016 recruitment videos which are now being used to promote the existing lines of business in the country and abroad. Towards the end of my placement, I was tasked with the creation and implementation of the new PSD video production hub which included the end-to-end process of video creation, "How to" videos, tips & tricks, and the adherence to the companies video governance guidelines. The goal of this project was to aid any of my colleagues who wished to upskill themselves in the art of video creation and is used to help increase the departments digital presence worldwide.
