I currently have 4 apps published for public download that I made voluntarily to help improve my software development skills:Derry Ancient Spirit Hunt (Android & iOS) https://spirithunt.derrysmarttour.com/A mobile game made using Unity and C# that allows the player to catch AR Ghosts across the city, that was sold for Halloween 2021 and the proceeds were donated to Foyle Search & Rescue. I applied and received funding from DCSDC and negotiated with local businesses for them to provide special offers to the players. Japanese Wordsearch (Android, iOS & Windows 10) https://wordsearch.kakitai.net/download A simple mobile app made using Xamarin Forms in Visual studio with C# that involves a word search using Japanese characters, it has received very good reviews for being easy to use and having lots of customization. Derry Smart Tour (Android & iOS) https://derrysmarttour.com/downloadMade with Xamarin Forms in Visual Studio with C#, it gets the user’s GPS location and to determine if they are next to a local point of interest or landmark then displays information about that landmark. It also has a basic AR function that allows the user to point their phones camera at a location and get the same information as the main mode.Kakitai (Windows 10) https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9WZDNCRFJJLHThe first app I made public, it was made using UWP in Visual Studio with C#, it was first published for windows 8.1 but upgraded to Windows 10 and it is now available on all Windows 10 devices including Xbox, mobile, tablet and desktop. It currently has over 60,000 downloads and has received very positive reviews, mostly for being in depth.Developing these apps has given me a solid knowledge in all stages modern software development including; planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment & maintenance using C#, associated software, frameworks and APIs (Visual Studio, .Net Framework, Xamarin Forms, ASP, Unity and UWP).

In this job I was responsible for the overall finance of Destined and the associated social enterprises; transport company (Derry Taxis), car wash (Foyle Valley Car Wash), tourism (Foyle Valley Railway Museum) & food service (Destined Café). This job required many skills including bookkeeping, payroll, completing funding applications & returns, invoicing, payment processing, charity commission applications & returns, online banking, cash handling and VAT Returns. In this role I also used many software packages including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Finance software packages; Sage accounts, Sage Payroll and Brightpay payroll.I was diligent and always went the extra mile to ensure the smooth operation of the workplace, performing many tasks, a lot of them computer related, that weren’t part of my job. My great attitude and problem-solving skills meant I was always the first person other staff members asked when they needed help. In the job I had proven that I am trustworthy, meticulous and have excellent communication skills by working with sensitive finance information, strict funding requirements and working with adults with special needs.

    • IT Tutor
      • Jul 2004 - Jun 2012

I designed and delivered an essential skills course with Numeracy, Literacy & I.T. to adults with a learning disability, during it I created a lot of materials as most available materials were either childish or too difficult. I also designed some software including a Maths Bingo game which was popular, it displayed a sum on the screen rather than a number and they had to mark the answer if they had it. I also designed workbooks & had them printed and designed & delivered OCN accredited courses in partnership with NWRC.

Glen McDermott is a young man with severe cerebral palsy, he can’t read or speak but wants to design websites. I tutored him 1 to 1 on using web design software like Adobe Dreamweaver, I had some success but in the end, the lack of being able to read proved too much of a drawback. I then made him an online website creation tool http://kylemorecomputer.com using ASP Core and SQL. It is simple, does the things he wants and is full of pictures to aid him, with this he can now create accessible websites, focused on video with picture navigation and text to speech for text blocks. This job required a lot of patience and creative thinking as it was unlike a normal teaching job.
