As a summer VISTA Associate, I collaborated with a local New Haven historian to research the date of construction for 1,218 structures (houses, shops, and carriage houses). After meticulous research, community meetings, and generating a detailed history of the neighborhood, the boundary expansion to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company National Historic District was approved in June 2013. The district expansion allows home owners to access federal funds and tax credits to offset the costs of historic home renovations. Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven initiated the project.
