Worked under faculty advisor Dr. David Robertson to prepare an arial imagery and historical GIS analysis on 114 miles of former New York West Shore & Buffalo trackbed. As a fervent supporter of public transportation, I was curious to understand how much of this historic New York State trackbed remains intact today and to further determine the potential of railroad tracks being returned to the trackbed. Through the Geography department at SUNY Plattsburgh working with Dr. Liou Xie, I was chosen to take part in a Transit Oriented Development Study of the City Of Plattsburgh, NY. While our project looked at many different aspects of the city, such as: land use, green space, and walkability, the primary goal of this study was to conceptualize Ideas that better connected downtown Plattsburgh to various points of interest in the city such as the Amtrak station, Plattsburgh International Airport, and waterfront property on Lake Champlain. Our project includes maps made with GIMP and ArcGIS software, photographs, and a survey designed for Amtrak passengers to complete while disembarking the train in Plattsburgh. Show less
