Having worked in the private sector, a move into the public sector offered a set of unique personal opportunities and challenges. The school had a number of dated systems and had historically placed investment in IT as a low priority. I have since implemented set procedures, 3 yearly strategic plans and comprehensive budget controls. I work as part of the extended leadership group and am a staff governor. I am in a unique pivotal driving position within the organisation. Over the last 6 years, under my control, the school has migrated to Microsoft Active Directory, implemented a stable infrastructure with network division through V-LAN’s, migrated to a virtual server environment utilising VMWare and substantially grown it’s IT facilities. I lead the implementation of a new content management based school website, a staff/student VLE and secure remote access to various core systems. The school has over 2,000 students and 220 staff, each with a login and access to systems at varying security levels. I am responsible for all IT systems, the security of highly confidential student information and the e-safety of over 2,200 students/staff.

As a member of the Operations Board I was responsible for heading the complete IT and IS strategy for the business, reporting directly to the Chief Executive. I managed many projects from implementing an Avaya INDEX call centre to developing a web based reporting platform for clients. Within this role it was my responsibility to manage the maintenance of all systems and infrastructure, ranging from the physical cabling and PC’s to the Avaya Technologies INDEX call centre system. Working within the Logistics and Distribution division, I was responsible for the strategic development and maintenance of systems over five UK sites. This was facilitated through a team of six individuals who reported directly to me. During my time at CPM I managed a five month project re-developing one of the core business critical applications to be year 2000 compliant. This was developed utilising Microsoft Visual Basic 6 and Microsoft SQL Server 7. It was my responsibility to lead and project manage the implementation of a computerised warehouse management system, which proved to be both very challenging and ultimately very rewarding.
