Constructed an automated, custom, UV laser micromachining station for optical diffractive elements. • Created a means to fabricate custom diffractive elements by integrating a 200 mW, 355 nm, Spectra-Explorer One laser with linear translation stages to optimize ultrafast ptychography experiments.• Designed a simple lens system to focus beam waist below desired specification of 20 m, resulting in a minimum spot size of 18 m and allowing for a smaller surface feature size.• Developed MATLAB code with Instrument Control Toolbox add-in to control motion of linear stages to allow the user to customize input to create novel diffractive elements, drastically reducing the cost of buying new gratings and increasing experiment efficiency.
