Imagine a childhood without play. It doesn’t seem right, does it? Unfortunately, this is true for many seriously ill children across the UK. According to our research, a third of hospitals across the country don't have dedicated play professionals and half of all hospitals we work with don’t have a budget for the toys and sensory play equipment that make the experience of illness and treatment better for kids. This is not only bad for children’s recovery and mental health, but it should be a key focus for NHS hospitals across the country. Play is protected in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Starlight Children's Foundation - UK is working hard to make sure that children have the space time and opportunity to play before, during and after treatment- it's their Human Right! Show less

Willow believes in quality of life and quality of time, providing Special Days for seriously ill young adults to anticipate, to share and to remember at a really challenging time. Following significant changes in the team in a short space of time, I was recruited to Willow to inspire and bring confidence to a fragile team during the period of recruitment for a new CEO. My main focus was simplification; collaboration and inspiration to develop a shared, one team approach to organisational understanding and performance. Key areas were : - Driving organisational performance through simplification of strategy as well as individual and team objectives and targets - Improving business intelligence by improving understanding of financial performance and drivers of financial performance individually and as a team. - Developing and introducing a values and behaviours framework supported by coaching and feedback workshops. - Improved integration of Willow retail and fundraising. - Improving internal communication, co-ordination, time management and collaborative working to reduce working in silos - Improved external Willow communications including FY16 Trustee report to the accounts. - Introduced project group to respond to changes in fundraising governance from the fundraising regulator.
