Undergraduate Researcher
-
Aug 2016 - Feb 2018
Independently developed and executed a research plan funded by Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program to characterize the scattering cross-sections and stopping powers of (Lower Earth Orbit) ionizing radiation in matter. Used Matlab to create a model simulating Rutherford scattering, then derived and created additional models using Hans Bethe's formula for HE particles to show the stopping powers of high energy particles in various materials. Simulated stopping distances of muons, electrons, and other particles; completed an extensive literary review; and delivered a final written report and presentation.Research was presented in the McNair symposium at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in September of 2017, and at the FIU McNair Scholars Research Conference in October of 2017. Findings were published in the McNair Scholars Journal in the fall of 2018.
