Reporting to the CEO and a member of the Thiess Executive team, this role was responsible for leading the people, capability and communications teams across Thiess. Thiess is a fully integrated mining services provider across multiple commodities and operates 21 mine sites across Asia, Australia and South America. Thiess employs circa 12,500 direct personnel, with operating revenue of AUD$3.5B- $4B. With a multi disciplined team of 10 direct reports and an extended team in excess of 100 employees, core deliverables included developing the people strategy for the wider Thiess business and coaching/developing a team to successfully deliver business outcomes. This included establishing initiatives to ensure continuity of labour to projects and safely deploy personnel to projects across the company’s regions, ensuring that governance and compliance requirement were met.Key Achievements• Full “top to bottom” review of operational People and Capability teams, with particular focus on the skills required to successfully secure growth in new markets and integrate any future acquisitions. • As a key member of the COVID Executive Working Group, led the people team through the two-year period of operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working closely with both functional and operational stakeholders, key deliverables included ensuring the business was able to quickly adjust its cost base to ensure overhead and project labour was consistent with revenue forecast. This included restructuring Thiess’ Australia and Pacific operations to meet market conditions and reshaping the industrial relations environment across the company’s projects.Key Achievements• Led people strategies to support significant organizational growth (2017 – 2020 revenue increased from circa $2.8B to $3.6B).
