I externed for Judge Thomas Cullen on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia during my 3L year. During my externship, I conducted research, analysis, and opinion drafting for Judge Cullen's docket--mostly pro se cases filed by prisoners under 28 U.S.C. § 1983. I drafted at least six sua dismissals, two bench memos, and two rulings on motions for summary judgment. As the Notes and Comments Editor on the Liberty University School of Law Law Review, I published a case note in the Spring 2020 Symposium issue (Vol. 14, Issue 2). I cite checked two articles, and performed proof checks for three more. I also served as the Issue Editor for Vol. 15, Issue 1; and as a Primary Editor for Vol. 15, Issues 2 and 3. In both cases, I supervised cite checks and proof checks, as well as conducting my own cite checks, proof checks, and grammar/style edits. As part of a twelve-week program arranged by Chief Justice Tom Parker, I spent six weeks clerking for Chief Justice Parker on the Alabama Supreme Court, and six weeks externing for Judge Andrew Brasher as he transitioned from the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. For the last four weeks of my six-week period with Judge Brasher, I externed with him in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
