Peer Navigator
-
2015 - 2015
As a Peer Navigator, I advocated directly for students' needs. This included research via focus groups and the creation of a life-skilled based curriculum. I co-wrote the annual grant report for my program, aided in tracking and managing expenditures, and did community outreach. This outreach created new partnership opportunities for the organization and allowed for the provision of new services to students. As a representative of students' needs, I also sat on the hiring board for the Transition Age Youth Program and was able to facilitate the hiring of a new program head.I participated in youth-focused seminars conducted by partners as well. These seminars focused on applying modalities such as MI to youth with eating and other disorders and on helping them obtain competency in areas such as finance.Although much of my work was done at the main office, I worked on campus with students helping them decode their diagnosis and understand their options. I facilitated on-campus guest lectures and groups as well.

I worked primarily within the Emergency Basic Needs Department conducting assessments and referring clients to appropriate resources. This included helping clients obtain healthcare, counseling, job training, and assistance with housing. Additionally, I worked with clients on creating and managing their personal budgets and understanding the nature of their unemployment and other benefits.
