Sales Executive

Feb 2015 - Present
As a Sales Executive at DK I was able to consolidate the skills learnt at JKP and to advance and challenge myself to take on more responsibility and new processes. My main role was looking after Wholesalers and book clubs, attending meetings and books fairs and responding to day to day enquires. I also maintained a marketing budget which required: analysing sales figures, forecasting sales and preparing monthly reports to feedback about my customers. Similarly, I had the opportunity to be creative and produce bespoke products and was able to collaborate with other departments in regards to new ideas and approaches to our products. I was able to close a sale of 25,000 copies of a bespoke title that was then increases to 30,000 worth £78K meaning that by April 2015 I had already surpassed the previous year’s total sales.

At Jessica Kingsley Publishers I worked my way up from Sales Administrator to Sales Executive. During my time there I was able to gain first hand insight into the role of sales in a smaller publishing house. As Administrator, my main tasks are compiling the rep packs, updating our agents, reps and distributors with bibliographic information. I handled customer and author orders. These tasks played to my strengths as they require strong organisation skills, quick thinking, attention to detail and knowledge of databases such as Amazon Advantage, Nielsen Pub Web, Biblio, Vista and Focus. As an executive, I managed a list of accounts across our list but mainly focusing on our SEN, autism and social work publications. Through research and regular client contact I was able to build up my main special sales account and there were regular orders every 3 months to replenish stock and sales of over £1000 in their first year. I was also able to make contact with a national organisation to promote a new title promoting awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) based in Holland and made a deal with them to take 5 copies to their international conferences as added exposure.
