Directed a team of 40+ teachers of different nationalities in daily operations, evaluation and professional development. In this workplace, I graduated from a teaching role to junior management, then into a top management and strategy role as Secondary Vice Principal. In the role of Secondary Vice Principal, I developed a contingency response to Covid-19 through developing a new operating model of online and hybrid learning. I also helped in planning and implementing a five-year plan for school expansion and growth, synthesizing anecdotal research into 9 goals and targets set for 1, 3 and 5-years, respectively. Within the classroom, I motivated and mentored four cohorts of English Language and Literature students to achieve scores above the world average and help them gain admittance into universities such as UC Berkeley, University of Chicago & Purdue University. In this role, I collaborated with the English team to overhaul the English Language program across the Secondary level, through backwards planning and vertically aligning skills and teaching materials. In addition, I participated on a team of 10 teachers, administrators and other school stakeholders in preparing documentation, school policy writing, teacher training & development of curriculum for the introduction of the IB Diploma Programme. Ultimately, we were awarded authorization to facilitate the IB Diploma Programme, helping school achieve status as the first IB World School in Bekasi, Indonesia. Show less

In response to low reading scores among at-risk male students, wrote and won a grant to develop an after-school reading & tutoring program. In this position, I worked as a Grade 9 Advanced English Teacher and as a teacher in the English Language Learner classroom. Working with such a range of students helped me to develop a variety of strategies to both challenge and support students. In the Grade 9 Advanced classroom, I planned a unit for Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. It was my first experience working with advanced students and I had to find the balance of providing them with the confidence to read such an advanced text while pushing them to look beyond just the words on a page and understand the novel more fully. At the same time, I was working in an ELL classroom with students from Vietnam, India, Cameroon, Mexico and more and planned lessons to not only acclimate them to a new culture, but also help them develop enough English skills so that they could fully enter the school. Central Junior High School was more first teaching internship post and where I discovered that I really enjoy teaching middle school. I collaborated with the Grade 7 English teacher to create a unit on the 8 Parts of Speech and assisted in the reading of a novel. Also in this post, I met weekly with other Grade 7 teachers to monitor successes and struggles of the Grade 7 students, brainstorming with them to come up with solutions to help students in the classroom. At the end of my internship, my mentor teacher had me lead Parent-Teacher conferences, allowing me to interact with parents and share my experiences with their child. Show less
