Tasks included: 1.Promotion of new development projects in Eastern Europe and Central Asia to sustain their move from a centralized communist system to a liberal market economy (5 projects when I started; over 30 when I ended my tour of duty 4 years later in 2004) 2. Organization of Pan-European regional conferences (bringing in countries beyond the EU) on major food and agricultural subjects of interest to all citizens, like food safety and food security.
