Clare brought a great deal of energy and expertise to SpheroSense at a critical time in the company's formation. Her ability to take initiative in an unstructured setting was instrumental in helping the company forward. Clare will do well wherever she goes, and you would do well to have her on your team.

This program had two main components: online independent learning and a group project. Online learning focused on Python typically using Pandas for data importing, cleaning, initial exploration and visualization, summary statistics, pivot tables, and supervised learning using the popular library scikit-learn, and interpreting results. Our group project was in collaboration with Grünenthal, a global chemical company with a local manufacturing presence, exploring at what supply… Show more This program had two main components: online independent learning and a group project. Studied Biocatalysis under Prof. Pohl in the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences: Biotechnology. My model reaction was the bioconversion of valencene (orange oil) to nootkatol/nootkatone (grapefruit scent) catalyzed by mutant BM3 P450 enzymes in batch and flow. This project included: Protein Expression (in E.coli) Purification (Nickel affinity/ Size Exclusion Chromatography) Covalent Immobilization (via HaloTag) Characterization (GC/MS and Spectroscopy methods) Data… Show more Studied Biocatalysis under Prof. Pohl in the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences: Biotechnology. I graduated with batch 4 and graded homework and was a TA for batch 5. Flockjay is a Y Combinator-backed company whose mission is to empower via high-impact, hands-on sales training from a network of world-class experts. At the time, they ran boot camps where tech fellows practice 200+ hours of lead qualifications, outbound prospecting, customer research, and industry mapping with coaches. Now they focus on B2B sales training. I graduated with batch 4 and graded homework and was a TA for batch 5. Specified work plan and cost estimates for technical partnership agreement contracts. Planned staffing, timing, budgets, and logistics of pilot runs. Submitted proposals for funding opportunities, which resulted in seed funding that generated preliminary solid-acid catalysis results for a DOE Early Career full proposal and in industry collaborations. My experimental research focused on sugar and fuel production from lignocellulosic biomass via pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, and fermentation to ethanol. This ranged from lab to pilot scales (10^-3 to 10^3 L, usually requiring sterile technique), woody to herbaceous feedstocks, and hydrolysis using industrial enzyme cocktails to individual component enzymes. Monitored resulting sugar and ethanol concentrations via HPLC. Analyzed data and presented research results in industry conferences presentations, internal milestone reports, and journal articles. Reviewed journal articles, SBIR proposals, and L’Oreal-UNESCO WISE Fellowships, and chaired and judged poster sessions. Coached two undergraduate summer interns and six MIT Practice School station teams of masters' students. Was recognized with an Outstanding Mentor Award from the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) program sponsored by DOE’s Office of Science in February 2010.

Converted lignocellulosic biomass to component carbohydrates and characterized implications of particle morphology, concentration, catalyst impregnation, on flow properties to reduce water usage during processing.

Studied microparticle aggregation as a function of inter-particle interaction force. Determined the relationship between colloidal gel structure and dynamics via direct visualization. Synthesized micron sized polymeric particles with less than 4% variation in particle diameter, imaged refractive index matched flourescent samples using confocal microscopy, verified and modified image processing code to produce quantitative mean squared displacement measurements from qualitative images.
