During my time at the University of Portsmouth, I worked on a business consultancy project overseeing the Hilsea Lido, with the goal of keeping the lido sustainable through covid with implementing a variety of seasonal activities, campaigns, timelines and merchandising. Our aims were to build upon Hilsea Lido’s current offer, conduct market research to ascertain what people want, and prototype the most promising ideas whilst developing Hilsea Lido into more than just an outdoor swimming pool is the goal. We conducted primary research through a small survey which gave us insight into our target market, particular the younger market. Our secondary research came in the form of a funding bid for the lido completed within the last year. The data analysed provided some insight for the researchers, on this project's topic however, it displayed some inherent gaps in knowledge and opportunities which could be filled in primary research. The following solutions were formulated as a result of the primary and secondary research; we identified the Lido’s vast outdoor space and saw how it could be used to create a self-sustaining activity centre. Ideas such as rock climbing, which could be either introduced using horizontal wall space or mobile units, which beforehand were free unused real estate. We were also considering other sports, such as yoga. We recognised space for a drive-in cinema that would not only be successful but would be compatible with the government's social distancing law. I created a storyline of the history of the lido spamming back to its inception in 1935 to now, really trying to bring the lido to life; it also included questionnaires to keep it interactive, this meant we were discovered the past and created the future simultaneously. Clair was influential in the systematic approach to creativity and always ensured that we were thinking outside the box when developing and implementing ideas together; she allowed us to work collaboratively and gave us autonomy on all levels, including when tasks were assigned. When I first started this project, I wasn't the most creative person, but Clair helped not only me but also my team, to complete it successfully. I would highly recommend working with Clair in the future if you have a chance.

Clair Martin was a client that worked alongside my team in a business consultancy project with the aim of developing Hilsea Lido into more than an outdoor swimming pool and proposing a range of new activities at the lido which will contribute to the wider business plan. Clair Martin is a great person to work with. She encourages creative and design thinking, incorporating various ideas and helping with anything needed in completing and achieving goals. She is also a creative personality and personally has been very helpful when it came down to envisioning designs for creating posters for a marketing strategy in the team’s recommendation plan when we worked together. Her work savvy is complemented by her creative acumen

Portsmouth: A Young Changemakers City is Unloc’s exciting new project funded by the Ellis Campbell Foundation. This innovative new programme seeks to better embed democracy and democratic practices within schools, and inspire and empower young people to become changemakers in their own right. "The Young Changemakers Cities project is an essential tool to spark creative thinking and doing to help bring about social change. The project gives young people the confidence to ask for change and to feel confident change will happen"The plan is to develop the project further and roll out the Young Changemaker Cities project to schools across the country in the future. As the city where it all started for Unloc, Portsmouth is the location for our launch of the project, and provides an exciting new innovation for Portsmouth schools and the young people that attend them.

Creating memories for the next generation!Hilsea Lido Pool for the People Trust is a Company Limited by Guarantee (reg no 6940781) and Registered Charity (reg no 1133714) managed by a board of trustees who are supported by trust members, volunteers, supporters, donors and via partnership working. This is a community project and the community are encouraged to get involved.Because of the nature of this project the board of trustees are very hands-on. Funds are scarce and therefore the only people employed by the trust at present are qualified lifeguards.HLPP Trust has a very loyal team of volunteers who work incredibly hard (in all weathers) to help maintain and improve the site, plan & prepare for the future, provide operational support and keep this project on track.New faces are always welcome & people are invited to contribute as little or as much as they want, be it professional skills, basic volunteering, donations, fundraising initiatives or just ideas. Taking part can consist of just an hour or two or on a long-term basis, it’s all a matter of choice.Together we have achieved a massive amount, there is still lots to do – Get involved, you might enjoy it!
