I was a legal assistant at Myers Bigel for four years before ultimately ending up in the firm’s accounting department. Though a newbie to the legal field in 2007, I quickly became acquainted with, and proficient at performing a variety of tasks and responsibilities, including preparing applications, responses and other patent prosecution documents for filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). I supported three attorneys, emphasizing an importance in time management for reaching sensitive deadlines, while establishing and maintaining client communications. This experience certainly aided in my transition to the firm’s accounting department. Currently I assist the firm’s attorneys by preparing and distributing monthly invoices for our entire client base. I ensure compliance in individual client-specific billing requirements and guidelines, and have gained expert use of multiple e-billing portals to submit invoices, among other methods of dispersing invoices. I'm proficient at meeting strict deadlines throughout each month. I continue to maintain strong client relations through open communication between not only our clients, but the firm’s attorneys, staff and my accounting colleague. Other tasks and responsibilities of mine include: reconciling and entering costs related to multiple credit cards and a deposit account used by the firm, help maintain proper use of trust funds, assist with client AR reminders and posting payments, entering maintenance and renewal related fees and costs, and gladly taking on additional tasks as presented to me.
