  In my role, I design case-based simulations focused on social determinants of health (e.g., food insecurity, housing insecurity, health literacy, etc.) for MetroHealth’s Emergency Medicine residents. I have also researched various social determinants of health, such as elder abuse and intimate partner violence in pregnant women, to inform the design of virtual reality simulations for MetroHealth’s collaboration with the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center’s Medicaid Simulations Project. I also created an evaluation programs for simulation facilitators, using training data I collected and visualized. I continue to work as a part-time intern, designing surveys for training participants and performing different data analyses for the simulation center.

  I served as an undergraduate research assistant for the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network (OPEN) Project C2: Infant and Maternal Mortality at The Ohio State University. In this role, I worked under the guidance of faculty members from The Ohio State University College of Public Health and The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs. In this role, I helped design a system dynamics convergence model and dashboard to understand the impact of different policy interventions on Non-Hispanic Black infant mortality rates in the Columbus area. I also assisted with the creation of a webinar presentation for infant and maternal mortality experts and decision makers across Ohio to share our model and dashboard. I work, on average, 10 hours a week building the model, designing dashboards, preparing presentation materials and meeting with principal investigators and co-investigators.

I collected data for the Elyria Active Transportation Plan through walk audits and community stakeholder interviews. I also planned and executed communication and marketing campaigns for local produce stands, community walking, healthy food and beverage policy adoption, and tobacco cessation. Additionally, I conducted over 90 tobacco store audits in Lorain County to assess point of sale advertising of tobacco products.
