Jonny Lee

Clair is an outstanding individual with an eye for creativity! After working on a number of youth productions with her (consisting of 40+ cast and 40+ technical staff), Clair has been a major cog in the artistic and design teams as Head designer. She has produced incredible sets and other artistic features and has led a diverse and highly competent team. Clair is brilliant to partner alongside in calloborative work and is always stretching towards excellence with the resources afforded her! I recommend wholeheartedly Clair in both a professional and voluntary capacity!

As daughter of an amateur Operatics enthusiast there was no getting away from a love of great music. Beginning in the Classical formal Church Choir of St Martin in the Bull Ring Birmingham, under the directors John Hawker and composer Peter Churchill. Clair & her twin became known for their harmonies, working with a variety of groups and choirs across a range of genres Clair & her twin Rose developed the collaborative duo that was Clearrose. Called on by a number of artists to work on collaborative projects, Clair supported soloists in a wide variety of performance settings and worked with a plethora of producers from Urban to Jazz and Contemporary from EMI's Gordon Lorenz, John Barber, Trevor Davis (Jazz ensembles) to Hip Hop's Butcha, Living proof and even Ska producer KnotK. Songs released have appeared on a number of compilation projects as well as Clearrose album 'Attitudes' which was re-mastered in 2009. Numerous Radio and TV appearances have taken Clearrose into Europe, America and Africa with their music, one song Clair taught to a group of teenage girls in Kibera, (Niarobi, Kenya) the second largest shanty town in the world, where they performed to a crowd of approximately 1000 people. Most recently released composition being CSOS Streets Sixteen - No Height, produced to sponsor a Water Sanitation project in Zimbabwe by Medair. This need for clean water had become a passion after returning from Africa and Medair's Project was successfully completed in Matebeleland earlier in 2014. Meanwhile composition and collaborative work continues with small groups of like minded songwriters and musicians across the West Midlands, who perform regularly in the Streets and Cafe's of this great city. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mdpi5Ub2l8c&list=PLcT6yGN_w-YSynjdyMMHKsVK9K1Sbt2xI

Representing the exciting groundswell of underground gospel-led music being written, and performed around the mid lands of England in the churches, the concert venues, streets and parks.’ This project aims to bring attention to some of the quality acts who’ve been involved in outreaching & creating music locally (in the Midlands England).Volume I compilation tagline 'Ruff Beats with a Heavy Message' brings together a compilation of quality artists, featuring currently in the Midlands underground Gospel scene! These are gifted un-signed urban artists of various styles all using their music to present aspects of the Gospel message.Received some great reviews from people in the industry and has proven a unique opportunity to unite and promote the Gospel Music scene in B’ham…Submissions to Vol. I were so varied & numerous that CSOS have decided to produce a 'Soulful' compilation to highlight some of the more 'Soulful' individuals who have crossed their path. This is an awesome album and features a wide selection of phenomenal Gospel artists who are making huge waves in their own right.Vol. II 'Soulful' is due to Release 12th Aug 2018, with a launch event at Gas St Birmingham on 7th Sept 2018!!In the interim we had an amazing opportunity to work with Medair to support a water Sanitation in Matabeleland Zimbabwe. This led to the reproduction of the Clearrose 'No Height' track (written by Clair) featuring numerous artists from this and the guest 'Hip Hop' duo Solar Angelics appearing & co writing on the Middle 8, who later became known as the Streets Sixteen.

    • Music Teacher - Vocal Coach
      • Sep 2008 - Aug 2019

School based teaching includes technical and theoretical student oriented vocal coaching. This includes specific preparation for coursework and performance elements of grade exams, GCSE, A Level and BTEC qualifications. I offer an assessment scheme based around graded repertoire and learning that offers an equivalent to a graded certificate alongside official examinations.Individual lessons working with all ages and abilities, developing good technical practice, drawing mainly from Estille, Speech Level Singing and some Trundle techniques (for the changing voice) lessons are based around achieving the individuals own goals and objectives.Choir leader, for performance elements of Primary and Secondary curriculum, school performances as well as extra curriculum events and projects. Training includes the New Horizons qualification for professional musicians. Sing For Pleasure Foundation and Intermediate conductors Certificates, gained under the direction of the incredible Ula Weber, whom I have worked alongside leading Sandwell Youth Choir and singing workshops at various schools festivals and events in venues such as Birmingham's Symphony & Town Hall's. Other opportunities have included preparing students with repertoire for Young Voices and Sing Up events supporting inspirational conductors like David Lawrence and Ruth Roberts. As well as gaining opportunities to be a fly on the wall in rehearsals with CBYV conductor Shirley Court, in which I especially enjoyed seeing her coaching an amazing solo performance from a student with speech and language difficulties.I loved this role, so inspiring to see past students progress and flourish into confident and proficient musicians. Realising their potential through a range of qualification and personal opportunities. From grades, to conducting their choir to making surprise appearances at events where they are now performing as industry based professionals. This progress I hope to continue observing from afar.
