The central concept behind this project was to analyze the emergence and consolidation of social entrepreneurship within the context of the changes undergone by Portuguese society over the last decades, taking on board the international debate and alternatives to the capitalist model. The growth of social entrepreneurship can be regarded as one of the mainstays of a new model of development, evolving over the last four decades, which emerged with the appearance of thousands of new third sector organizations all over the world.   Member of the portuguese team of the Dangerous Liaisons - a european scale research project on the relations between prostitution and drug use, supported by the Specific Programme “Drug Prevention and Information” 2007-2013 of the European Commission, DG “Justice, Freedom and Security” This is a transnational project aimed at: a) expansion of knowledge base; b) creation of multidisciplinary network; c) raising awareness of the social and health problems caused by drug use; d) prevention of drug use. Five NGOs from four EU countries (Italy, Portugal, Spain and Bulgaria) are partners in the project. The specific problem addressed by the project is that significant share of people who prostitute themselves consume psychotropic substances. Meanwhile studies trying to understand the binomial prostitution and use/abuse of drugs are hardly available and interventions on this specific target are still less. Show less
