Hollywood Resumes is a resume writing and career services business dedicated to those pursuing careers in the entertainment industry. We work with candidates at all stages of their careers, from interns to executives. I love helping people navigate their career journeys, whether it's helping a job applicant put their best foot forward with their materials, or coaching a client to figure out their goals and map out a job search strategy. Ever since I started working, I've been a part of the hiring process -- my first job as a Hollywood assistant included hiring interns and leading an assistant training program, and from there, I've hired freelancers and full-timers at a variety of levels for each of the companies I've worked for. After reviewing hundreds of resumes and conducting dozens of interviews a week, I learned a lot about what makes a great candidate stand out in this competitive industry, and I love applying that knowledge to serve our clients. I'm also proud of how we've built Hollywood Resumes to be a successful business and continue to expand our service offerings to better serve our clientele. I've been a small business fanatic for as long as I can remember (I was the kid who would curl up with an issue of Inc. magazine) and it's exciting to shepherd the growth of my own company. Since our launch, we've helped diverse clients from all over the world across many areas of the industry, like the college student looking for her first internship, the freelancer looking to transition to full-time, the crew member looking for her next gig, the senior executive looking for a new challenge, the post-production supervisor looking to transition to a role outside of the industry, and the non-industry professional looking to finally realize her Hollywood dreams. We also write a career tips newsletter, lead workshops for various partner groups, and teach online courses. I've written for a variety of outlets over the years, from screen to print to digital, and I always have multiple personal projects in the works. On the scripted side, I've written for comedy web series ADULTING WITH JANE and short-form projects for G-dcast, DEFY Media, and mitu. I've taken sketch writing courses at UCB and have multiple comedy and dramedy pilots in my portfolio. I also write essays and articles, primarily focusing on food allergies, faith, and pop culture. My work has appeared in Free-From Magazine, Jewess.com, and The Jewish Journal. I've taken multiple courses at The Writing Pad and am currently working on a memoir about my life with food allergies. Additionally, I do a lot of creative work for the non-profit NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change. I co-directed and co-produced the short documentary "Two Faiths One Prayer" which was covered by media outlets across the world and received the organization's Change-Maker Award. I've also produced additional short documentaries/PSAs for the organization, performed as a storyteller in The Moth-like Spotlight event, and participated in their writers collective to focus on how personal storytelling can bridge the gap between people of different backgrounds. I'm always eager to take on new writing projects, so feel free to get in touch! Personal Blogs: https://cindykaplan.substack.com/ www.allergyepsiodes.wordpress.com

Signal Entertainment Marketing is an entertainment marketing firm specializing in product placement and brand integrations. I worked with multiple clients in this role, including Procter & Gamble, Breitling, Beyond Meat, Soylent, and Orange Theory Fitness. I was also highly involved in the prospecting and pitching side of the business, and represented the company as a panelist at Digital Hollywood.Much of my work focused on leading the P&G account, and I'm proud that during my time with the company, I was able to secure thousands of organic trade-out placements across TV, streaming, and film and expand our agency's scope to include fee-based integrations and promotion negotiations. I negotiated and executed integrations with partners including Disney, Paramount, Guy Fieri, and Rachael Ray. In this role, I worked closely with prop masters, set decorators, art department coordinators, clearances coordinators, production resources departments, studio marketing teams, and client brand managers. I enjoyed bridging the gap between the production and business sides and liaising with advertising teams outside of the entertainment industry, since I love learning about different areas of the entertainment ecosystem. I also watched a lot of content to track client deliverables, which has given me strong knowledge and insight into the content landscape.

    • Content Manager
      • Dec 2013 - Sep 2015

When I first joined Signal in 2013, I started as a Content Manager. In that role, I was responsible for tracking potential opportunities for product placement and brand integration in TV and digital projects and with YouTube influencers. I managed a team of freelancers and oversaw their input into our unique searchable database. I also collaborated closely with our technical team to design a rewarding user experience and improve the database's functionality. This role afforded me a strong understanding of project management and design and has increased my ability to adopt new software and technology tools.

Kids at Play is a full-service production company that produces film, TV, digital, and commercial/branded content. Its small start-up vibe allowed me to wear multiple hats. During my time there, I wrote film, TV, and web series scripts for outlets like Disney Junior, Yahoo!, Electus, and VEVO. I also developed reality series for TV and the web, researching unique places and characters and conducting casting interviews. The company had a bustling production slate, and I was often occupying a variety of roles on set, including production coordinator, script supervisor, director, and producer. One of the highlights from time at Kids at Play was writing the short "Social Media Anonymous," which garnered more than one million views on Yahoo! where it was rated one of the editor's top videos for 2012 and was selected into multiple film festivals.

Itsonthegrid.com was a film development database acquired by The Wrap News, Inc. in 2011. It featured spec scripts, open writing and directing assignments, and other projects in various stages of development at studios and major production companies, and was the parent site of The Power Grid, a first-of-its-kind power ranking system for Hollywood people and companies. My role was to oversee content for the database, tracking new projects and overseeing a team to ensure data was entered correctly. I also wrote the site's blog and the biweekly "Scoggins Report," an in-depth analysis of the spec and pitch market. Additionally, I managed the site's social media accounts and handled customer service needs. A large part of my job was developing and growing The Power Grid, and as such, I worked alongside a data scientist to create a formula to measure "power" in the industry and offered design and UX feedback to the Chief Product Officer.
