I have carried out an 8 week research project under the supervision of Dr Anthony De Soyza. My project was titled 'Understanding Neutrophils role in Inflammation in Bronchiectasis'. This involved collecting blood samples from patients and controls in order to carry out several experiments and collect various data sets to compare the activity of the two cohorts. Numerous skills were required to successfully complete the project, these included organisational and time-management skills in order to carry out the research within the given time frame. In addition this project required a great deal of initiative, confidence and communication skills allowing me to work both independently and as part of the lab team.

Spent two weeks under the guidance of consultant Mr Julius Asante-Siaw learning about the different roles and responsibilities within the hospital. I was given the opportunity to observe numerous procedures including thoracic and cardiac surgery .

Spent a day shadowing the medical director alongside speaking with many of the employees and learning about the wide variety of roles and responsibilities within a major pharmaceutical company.

I have spent 25 hours at two local doctors surgeries shadowing the doctors and practice nurse, allowing me to directly observe them and gain an insight into their roles and responsibilities,

I was given the opportunity to gain experience at my local dentists surgery learning about dentistry and its challenges whilst observing numerous procedures. I was able to work alongside the clinic team and interact with patients.

I spent two weeks working in the laboratory and administration departments, performing experiments and analysing the data to provide a written report of my findings. I was given the opportunity to work both alongside a team and individually which required good communication and organisational skills as well as initiative and confidence.
