I taught a seminar on Roman Comedy as a guest lecturer as part of a larger course on Roman Comedy in the department of Classical Philology. The seminar was a total of 6 hours taught over three 2-hour class periods from April 8 - April 29. We looked at the genre as a whole, and translated the Mostellaria of Plautus. We also spent time studying Plautus' metre and learning to scan it. Translated when visiting lecturers only spoke Italian; translated on site when guides of various sites we were guests of only spoke Italian, such as the theatre at Herculaneum and the Boscoreale museum; translated between volunteers and hotel/scavi staff; accompanied volunteers to hospital when they had medical problems, to translate and help; picking up of volunteers at airport, showing them the train and bus system. Explaining basic Italian for volunteers travelling away from the hotel. Helped pick out baby clothes for hotel's staff's new babies :) Given lectures to staff and volunteers on reading the inscriptions of Pompeii. Guided students and other volunteers to various archaeological sites in Campania and Latium.
