Did he sell White Page advertising in the phone book? The answer is "sort of". I was selling Yellow Page & White Page advertising in the phone book - one of the most challenging & most fulfilling roles I've ever taken up in my professional career. ✪ Yellow Pages?,.....really? A majority of the market share was eaten up by the utility phone company's YP advertising - which posed a giant challenge for me, as I was selling Yellow Page advertising for a small, unknown - independent Directory company out of Buffalo, New York that called themselves "White Directory Publishers". No problem, right? ✪ Without going into too much detail about the position, I can offer this mental picture: Remember the show "MacGyver"? - this job was just like that show. [You're in a room with no door, and you're exit is a window in the middle of the 12' ceiling - how do you get out with only a garden hose, an "Earth, Wind & Fire" album and a new golf ball?] ✪ PLEASE: Don't get me wrong,...I'm not speaking badly of the job, it was one of the most fulfilling experiences I've had in my professional career because of how much I learned in such a short amount of time from both the management & the incredible colleagues I worked with on a daily basis. Not only did we have fun, but we challenged each other to implement creative prospecting techniques to achieve success in what seemed like a "David vs. Goliath" battle for market share with the competition.
