Bio
James Stapley
I've know Chris for nearly 20 years, and in that time, I have seen his considerable technical prowess on many occasions. He is particularly strong at simply getting things done - researching solutions, implementing them and ensuring they are supported, no matter the short deadline imposed or the apparent difficulty of the task. Having been around when the electricity has been shut off in the middle of computer science practical exams, I've seen that he is calm under pressure, and ensures that measures are taken to mitigate the impacts of such challenges, and always finds ways to achieve the department's objectives despite various obstacles. He is also willing to mentor people, and is selfless in offering advice, assistance and suggestions. As an educator, he thinks deeply about how best to get students he is teaching to understand and grasp the material, and seeks innovative and interesting ways to deliver the material. Having been in a systems administration position for a computer science department at a university for many years, he has "seen it all" - and done most of it, across support, linux and windows systems administration, networking and the support of a large fleet of office and computer lab PCs, and in the procurement of equipment - as well as meeting the at times esoteric requirements of computer science researchers. I have no doubt he will handle any work challenge thrown his way with enthusiasm and success.
