  My role as a technician at the University of St Andrews involves the preparation of teaching labs for students in the school of Biology and technical assistance during the running of these labs. Outwith the teaching term I maintain the integrity of the research labs, this involves ensuring a plentiful supply of stocks and contacting the appropriate contractors when equipment is faulty. The position also requires me to cover the lab steward, the media room technician and the store person during their annual leave. As and when required I help out in the research labs with cell tissue culture and preparation of DNA samples for other lab members to use.
