I advise students applying to study law at either Oxford or Cambridge on issues relevant to the application process. During conversations with mentees, I cover topics including interview techniques, college choices, and the LNAT examination used by Oxford and Cambridge. In particular, I brief students on the LNAT through giving recommendations on resources (more specifically, books, magazines, and newspapers) to use to prepare for the test's multiple-choice section. Furthermore, I review UCAS personal statements submitted to me by students. When responding to these personal statements, I provide detailed feedback in the form of annotations, highlighting specific changes to make, whether as regards spelling and grammar, or the statement's general structure. Research Collaborator
-
Jun 2021 - Present
I am carrying out research for an upcoming health law paper, which examines the legality of deep and continuous palliative sedation in various jurisdictions; my research is concentrated primarily on France, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. During the research process, I have conducted video calls with leading academics interested in contributing to the paper. Here, I outlined the paper's aims, and the schedule that its co-authors planned to follow. Moreover, I have recently made a series of extensive changes to all sections of the paper, creating a new draft. Consequently, I have ensured that all footnotes within the paper are accurate, and that the paper’s first-principles analysis of relevant criminal law is significantly more concise than before. Jun 2022 - Jul 2022
In my first week at Sidley Austin, I supported the work of the firm's Restructuring department. Here, I created a report outlining the rights of different categories of creditors in the event of a football club's insolvency. Moreover, I drafted a summary on the insolvency law case of Barings v Galapagos, on which judgment had been handed down recently by the High Court. In my second week, I worked in Sidley Austin's Competition practice. During this week, I wrote an analysis which briefed colleagues on the potential effects of the EU's proposed Digital Markets Act on European competition law. Towards the end of the scheme, I completed several further tasks; for instance, I successfully proofread the work of trainees through extensive cross-referencing with several documents. Show less

Aug 2020 - Jan 2021
I used Zero Gravity’s online platform to hold weekly video meetings with a state-educated, aspiring Cambridge law student. Initially, I focused on improvements to the student's personal statement, in terms of its structure and its substantive legal content. After this, I conducted several mock interviews with my mentee. To make the mock interviews realistic, I prepared worksheets similar to those given to applicants shortly before their actual interviews, involving a detailed scenario, and mock legislation. Moreover, I frequently set my mentee timed essays; after receiving his responses, I would discuss them at length in our next meeting. My mentee was duly successful in his interview, and has accepted a place at Cambridge. Show less

Volunteer - Weekend Experience Team
-
Aug 2019 - Jan 2021
As a Weekend Experience Volunteer, I was, on occasion, first point of contact outside of term-time for visitors to the National Trust's Sheffield Park site on weekends. During my time at Sheffield Park, I participated actively in its fundraising drive, aiming to generate funds to maintain the site, through marketing raffle tickets to clients. Through this, alongside efforts to persuade frequent visitors to purchase a National Trust membership, I strengthened my commercial awareness by taking part in the range of initiatives used by the Trust to maximise revenue. Volunteer Guide
-
Aug 2017 - Aug 2017
As a Kangaroos volunteer guide, I liaised with volunteers and employees at a small Sussex charity to facilitate numerous activities, including visits to beauty spots and arts and crafts fairs, tailored for children with learning difficulties. Here, I supported the employees organising the activities, by providing emotional support to the children when necessary. Moreover, I helped the children complete various activities, such as the designing and flying of kites during outings through a local park. Show less
