At the Leicester Mercury/LeicestershireLive I covered multiple topics such as: politics, sports, health, crime, business and various others. As well as producing written content, I also tried to implement a multimedia element to my work wherever possible. I have appeared in podcasts, shot and edited video as well as producing pieces to camera live at a crime scene. At the beginning of the pandemic, with everyone working from home, I created a live videocast using streaming software the streamed straight to LeicestershireLive’s FB page. The series was called ‘In conversation with’ and featured myself interviewing well known people from the county. Each one drew in more thank 10k live viewers and it’s probably something I’m most proud of from my time here. The Mercury allowed me to become a more rounded and confident journalist who is prepared to try their hand at anything.

      • Apr 2016 - Jul 2018

I took on the role of match reporter for the Indy whilst studying in my 3rd year at Falmouth University. Every Saturday and the occasional weekday I would follow teams from the South West Peninsula Football League; call my contact at each club for the details of the game; and produce an 80-120 word match report for the paper the next day. I enjoyed the pressure and it really helped me to develop an understanding of what it was like to write to a tight deadline at a professional standard.

I work closely with the club to produce quality content. I have written match reports as well as conducted interviews, taken photographs and also created video content of match highlights in which I did all of the editing and even some of the video myself. • Work Placement - Assistant Producer
      • Jul 2017 - Aug 2017

I gained this work placement through the gap between the university academic year. I helped produce and edit content to go into different programmes. I also observed a lot to get an idea of how a Radio station works, as I had no experience working in that environment previously. From this I learnt a great deal and used it to influence my podcast in the sense of how to produce and plan for every week's podcast. I won this placement through my hard work in my first year at university. At the falmouth packet I experienced what it was like working as part of a news team, as well as how to edit copy in order for it to be published to a deadline. I also went out into the field to report at live events. I won this placement through my hard work in my first year at university.
