I work within the corporate criminal team helping prepare some of the firm’s most complex financial crime and regulatory cases. My recent experience includes defending in proceedings and investigations brought by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) and HMRC.High profile cases on which I have recently worked include the successful acquittal of the former CEO of G4S UK & Ireland in respect of an alleged fraud against the Ministry of Justice, following almost a decade of investigations and proceedings brought by the SFO. I also successfully defended the former Managing Director of Tesco UK on charges brought by the SFO concerning an alleged £250 million accounting fraud. Show less

During the practising period of my pupillage, I appeared in more than 230 criminal court hearings, including over 100 trials, acting for the defence, the CPS and for other prosecuting agencies. I won my first Crown Court trial, defending a man accused of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, after excluding crucial expert evidence and then making a submission of no case to answer. During my first non-practising six months I attended court with my pupil supervisor, Philip Evans, and assisted him in the preparation of a number of serious and complex cases on behalf of both the prosecution and the defence. This included the successful defence of a man accused of attempting to murder his grandfather during the course of a burglary. I took particular responsibility for the analysis of the telecommunication evidence, which was used to suggest culpability of the co-defendant and exonerate the client. I also regularly assisted my supervisors and other members of Chambers with legal research and the preparation of advices on a diverse range of topics ranging from third party political campaign expenditure to the seizure of special procedure material. During the course of my pupillage I undertook the following secondments: ■ HMRC VAT Litigation Team - I assisted with trial preparation in relation to two MTIC fraud cases in the tax tribunal. ■ WilmerHale - I assisted with document review for an internal investigation into a hedge fund. ■ FACT - I assisted with the analysis of torrent files as part of the first ever prosecution of an online movie release group. ■ Hickman & Rose - I helped prepare a detailed advice concerning Euribor/Libor manipulation.
