The Strategic Growth Initiatives (SGI) programme is an internal investment programme designed to accelerate revenues in certain identified key programmes at KPMG UK. The programme is sponsored and overseen by the COO and is a core part of KPMG’s strategy. My responsibilities included:Management of the overall SGI programme, budget requests, financial performance reviews, interaction and reporting with the Executive Committee. A detailed review of the SGIs for the Executive Committee to determine whether the investment budget was deployed effectively and how the SGIs could be accelerated. Working with Corporate Development and other stakeholders to completely redesign the acquisitions process to expedite and ensure alignment to strategy.KPMG lead for the Business Innovation Summit 2015 – a significant event run in conjunction with HSBC to discuss how corporates can maximise the value of their innovation. Leading the organisation of a key workshop to executive level members of the commercial banking division of a leading international bank. Designed and ran a programme of activities to increase awareness of the SGIs throughout KPMG UK in conjunction with internal communications.

The Financial Services Tax department – covering banking, insurance and funds management – works with financial institutions to develop and execute global tax strategies striking a balance between risk and opportunity. The work covered tax compliance, bespoke advisory and also tax audit assistance. I was primarily focussed on the insurance sector and my role included:A four month secondment to Mexico as an “out of the box experience” where I was able to develop relationships with my primary client in continent where no relationship with KPMG previously existed. Work was subsequently won with the client in a number of those countries.Identification, sale and execution of an opportunity for a client to refresh their intra-group transfer pricing policies to benefit from a more tax efficient structure. Negotiation and securing of favourable outcomes with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in a number of areas, leading to a significantly improved outcome for clients in terms of reduced man hours, cashflow, penalties and income.
