The ISTKEP project is run in partnership with Activate Learning, Activate Learning Education Trust, Newbury College and the Windsor Forest College Group. The aims of the project are to engage small- and medium-sized enterprises within the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics industries in Berkshire to encourage better working relationships and address the skills needs identified by the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP and DWP. The project will engage employers with the colleges and their curriculum through a menu of options, including masterclasses, staff and student work placements and project-based learning, utilising the SMEs' advanced knowledge in day-to-day industry requirements and best practice to embed current working knowledge into the units taught. As a Project Coordinator, it is my responsibility to engage with SMEs and discuss how they can be involved with the ISTKEP project, primarily for the Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham and Crowthorne areas. I develop the relationship and introduce the Faculty Managers and tutors to the SMEs to discuss implementing their choice of options. This could include setting the specifications of a project relating to the curriculum, monitoring students' progress over time and facilitating an end-of-project presentation from the student cohort (a brief example of project-based learning). These insights into current industry practice will enhance and solidify our student's understanding as they complete their courses, and promote the under-represented skills in the Berkshire area. As a Job Seeker's Allowance Advisor, I provided information, advice and guidance to the general public and claimants, aiding them with developing their skills and employability to secure new job opportunities as soon as possible. I assisted with job searching and signposted to courses and opportunities in the area that could help their journey back to work. I also had financial responsibility when releasing claimants' payments and when providing extra financial support for people who require assistance with challenges to work for their first few weeks of employment. As a Performance Team Leader for Employment and Support Allowance claimants, I was responsible for a team of 4 advisors, monitoring individual and team office outputs and case conferencing on difficult cases that required more focussed engagement. I implemented new processing and monitoring documents for the team, which were taken as a good practice and disseminated through the whole of the Southern group. Show less
