In January 2021 I was provided an amazing opportunity with Employment Hero, an Australian start-up rolling out its HR & Payroll product into New Zealand. This was a mostly inbound focussed role with a much quicker sales cycle than at Adobe, which gave me a much more holistic view of B2B sales, and the vastly different approaches required. As one of the first two employees in New Zealand, one of the most exciting parts of the role to me was helping to increase the business' presence, bring onboard some of our earliest customers, and collaborate on how best to launch into a new market. My first role outside of hospo was as a SDR representing Adobe's e-commerce solution Magento. I had a personal pipeline target of $1m USD a year, where I was regularly engaging with Australian and New Zealand B2B and B2C businesses with annual revenue in excess of $100m. This role was a combination of inbound and outbound data, and with no sales experience prior, is where I learned the 'tools of the trade' and was given the opportunity to prove myself.
