Site Management Officer

As Site Management Officer for the Macquarie Point Development Corporation, I had a number of roles and responsibilities within managing key parts of the Macquarie Point Site and it's operations. These included: - Providing day-to-day oversight of the corporation’s site access and security systems, including access control, site registration and induction processes, alarms and perimeter controls, on-site traffic management and movement control, site emergency management and incident reporting procedures. - Oversight of the day-to-day management, implementation and compliance with of the site’s various environmental, heritage and site management plans. This included working with and monitoring the performance of all on-site contractors, including groundwater management, site remediation and infrastructure development contractors, as well as assisting with the prevention and management of on-site environmental incidents. - Working with the General Manager, Development and the corporation’s work health and safety consultants to ensure the corporation’s work health and safety management systems are effectively delivered. This included ensuring ongoing compliance with all work health and safety regulatory requirements and contribution to the prevention of work health and safety incidents. - Providing a range of technical support services to the General Manager, Development and the corporation’s remediation consultants in the development and implementation of site remediation, project and asset management plans. This included field sampling, environmental monitoring, GIS mapping and minor trade-related tasks. - Drafting environmental and work health and safety performance reports for approval and consideration of the board of the corporation and to satisfy regulatory reporting requirements.

Tas Defence - Environmental Advisor

As the appointed ESS / DeltaFM Environmental Advisor, my role was to manage all aspects of environmental management on Tasmanian Defence sites relating to ESS / DeltaFM and Tas Defence activities. My specific roles included: - The development, review, maintenance and implementation of environmental management plans (Contract Environmental Management Plan, Biosecurity Management Plan, Grounds Management Plan) - Environmental impact assessment and project management (investigation of potential project specific environmental impacts, assignment of environmental conditions for projects, impact assessment review) - Provision of advice on Commonwealth, State and Council level legislative environmental requirements (EPBC Act 1999, EMPCA 1994, TSP Act 1995, LUPA Act 1993) - Environmental incident investigation (e.g. chemical spills, threatened species disturbance, aboriginal midden disturbance) - Subcontractor Management (project management, education, compliance auditing) - Ensuring ISO:14001 Environmental Management System compliance (management of environmental aspect/risk/legal registers, auditing) - Vegetation Management (surveying, mapping, weed management, threatened species) - Biosecurity and Overabundant Native Species Management (quarantine management for weeds, pests and pathogens including Phytophthora cinnamomi, feral animal management) - Threatened Species Management (mapping, project impact assessment) - Bush-fire Management (review of consultant reports, provision of recommendations) - Ecological Sustainable Development (waste, energy and water assessment reduction) - European and Aboriginal Heritage Management (project management, management plan review, permit applications) - Introduction of environmental innovations - Active involvement and input into toolbox and pre-start meetings, including subcontractor and staff training. - Stopping work and finding solutions when a task or project is deemed environmentally damaging.
