Served as communications director of Jolt Texas, the largest Latino progressive organization in Texas focused on building the political power and influence of young Latinos. In this role, I managed digital campaigns leading up to the 2020 election, craft and test messages through Jolt's digital platforms, create and implement a strategy for press coverage of Jolt's key events, collaborate with the organizing team to create additional resources and collateral for student chapters and write copy for additional print materials. I led, planned, and executed the media campaign for the groundbreaking Movimiento 2020 Candidate Forum, a town hall for and by young Latino voters in Texas. In this role, I served as a liaison among Jolt and presidential candidates, confirming their attendance at the event and all logistics of their participation before, during, and after the event. I vetted, prepared, and managed high school and college students who asked candidates questions and handled all international, national, and local media interviews with political campaigns, Jolt's leadership, and its youth members. The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) selected 6 journalists to participate in the first Adelante Latin America Reporting Initiative trip to El Salvador. A group of six women journalists will report from San Salvador from August 16-25, 2016 on the theme of Women, Health, and Development. The fellows will convene in Mexico City, Mexico for a multi-day orientation and security training before departing for their reporting trips. While in country, fellows will have the opportunity to meet with local journalists, collaborate with international peers, and discover sites relevant to their reporting. This is the IWMF’s first reporting trip to Central America. The IWMF designed the Adelante Latin America Reporting Initiative to support journalists interested in pursuing in depth stories on themes including democracy and governance, immigration, agricultural development, economic opportunity, expanded technology access, women’s rights and development, education, and conservation. The program was launched in November 2015, building on the success of the IWMF African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative. To date, 12 journalists have covered under-reported stories from the Colombia and the Mexico-U.S. Border. Their work has been produced and published by leading media outlets around the world. Over the next five years, the IWMF will lead reporting trips for women journalists to Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and the Mexico-U.S. border. By 2020, more than 270 journalists will have participated, creating new media narratives about the region. The IWMF pays for fellowship-related expenses including travel, lodging, meals and fixers/interpreters unless a selected journalist’s news organization wishes to assume these costs. Show less
