As receptionist, I provide front of house support to the veterinary surgeons and nurses. I handle incoming enquiries via phone and email from practice clients and from other practices, which demands excellent communication and organisational skills along with the ability to keep calm under pressure in difficult circumstances. Given the nature of the business, it is important that I can stay positive and give reassurance to clients who may be distressed. My day to day role also incudes processing invoices and payments, booking appointments, advising clients on various products and animal care packages, updating contact information and maintaining client records using the in house system and liaising with a variety of animal care workers and professionals in other charity or private organisations within the animal care sector.

After taking time out to have a baby, I worked part time as a care assistant in South Liverpool, specialising in non-medical care of people in their own homes. As well as providing companionship and conversation, I assisted by preparing meals and cleaning up meal-related items, providing stabilisation and help with walking, light housework, accompanying clients to appointments and giving any other assistance as and when necessary. Helping elderly people live independent lives in their own homes is an enormous responsibility but something I found very rewarding.
