Currently have a rich life at Latin. In the life of the school I advise seven students academically. I also lead students on a retreat, sit with the at gathering and all school events, and work to thoughtfully debrief school wide speakers and programming. Facilitating a professional development group for four years (Critical Friends Group) has been a rewarding way to get to know my Middle and Lower school Colleagues and work to develop a community of learners amongst the teachers. I also am the Faculty sponsor for ECCO, Latin’s Literary and Arts Magazine. Every year I teach a few Independent Study students on a variety of Art topics.I have taught the required freshman course Global Cities Visual Art for many years, and was a part of building this cross-disciplinary curriculum. I teach Painting Studio and Drawing 2. Both are a joy and so closely related to my own art experience. In addition I teach two newer electives: Fashion Design and Universal Themes in Art. The first came from a combination of student interest and an acknowledgement the Fine Art world (and pop culture) is developing for seeing this practical art as an elevated. In this course we do Fashion Illustration, sewing, and work on understanding the Fashion Industry. Universal Themes in Art is a revamp of AP Art History, which I taught for many years. It seemed to really explore both work for outside of the European Tradition and skills of looking and writing that a theme based class was necessary to meet these goals. I hope to continue to develop this course with a curriculum grant this summer. Lastly, I teach AP Studio Art. This course is a gem and allows for space for students to truly work on the creative process and concept development in a thoughtful and meaningful way. Each student produces twenty-four works of art in a year, and begin understand their own artistic voice.
