As an elementary school teacher in a lower socioeconomic area, I have dedicated my career to not only teaching my students what they need to know academically, but also to mentoring them, advising them, and encouraging them to take their education seriously so they can escape the poverty and unstable atmosphere so many of them come from. I spend numerous hours outside of my normal work day to tutor and help my students every year with their academic struggles so they can reach their dream of going on to college and having healthy, positives lives and successful careers ahead of them. Data supports the fact that not only do the majority of my students academics and test scores improve dramatically each year, but they are consistently some of the highest test scores in the district overall.
