Managing multiple areas at once and consulting heavily with staff on preferred work patterns and procedures. Requires creative thinking and an ability to imagine hypothetical issues that may arise. • Casual Academic in International Relations
      • Jul 2015 - Sep 2016

Requested to write, research and present an annual lecture as part of the third year International Relations Topic African Interventions. My lecture was one of the introductory sessions for the semester and provided an overview of the Responsibility to Protect framework, as well as context for its relationship to African thinkers, philosophies and political structures. This also included holding a question and answer session post-lecture to discuss and debate with third year international relations, and double degree students.

    • Research Internship
      • Jul 2014 - Nov 2014

I wrote a report on progressive social policy and where SA ranks in particular issues. The political issues which I examined and benchmarked were same-sex couple access to parenting (ART, adoption and surrogacy), sex workers, medicinal marijuana, child protection and housing. This required in-depth analysis of legislation, parliamentary debates, academic articles and books, reports by advocacy groups and non-government organisations, as well as policy platforms by outspoken members of state and federal parliaments on these issues. I also had to investigate other policy models used overseas to ascertain if some aspects would be applicable in the political context in South Australia.

    • Congressional Internship
      • Jan 2014 - Mar 2014

I was selected, along with only five other Flinders University students to intern in a congressional office for eight weeks. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA03) was the member whom I was fortunate enough to intern for. My role included conversing with constituents via telephone conversations, faxes, and letter correspondence. This required quick thinking under pressure, maintaining decorum, and representing the Congressman and his views appropriately to his constituents. I was also assigned a number of briefings and hearings to attend and take notes, which gave me insight to a vast area of different political issues during my time in Washington. The output was a 12,000 word experiential, academic and professional piece on human trafficking within the United States, particularly on the increasingly partisan and polarised lens through which this issue is constructed in public life. This required indepth policy analysis of acts and bills, the application of legislation in society, Presidential speeches and executive action and advocacy and NGO materials.

    • Internship
      • Jul 2013 - Nov 2013

Researching and writing a report on whether arming opposition and rebel groups is an effective atrocity and genocide prevention strategy. I worked independently for the semester with guidance from Deputy Director Sarah Teitt. Output was a literature review on the subject matter, a policy brief, and a report recommending Flinders University's School of International Studies include more R2P in the course content.
