Bio
Teriz Michael, LSW
Christina is a remarkable woman who exudes empathy, intelligence, and integrity. Christina and I worked together as IOP group therapy interns helping adolescents process and recover from a variety of co-occurring mental health challenges by co-facilitating a DBT skills group. I had the privilege of witnessing Christina, even as a young clinician, masterfully utilize the therapeutic use of self to diagnose and treat young patients with the utmost respect and compassion. Her questions were intentional and open ended and her responses were thoughtful, supportive, authentic, and purposeful. She was sensitive to cultural and developmental nuances individualizing her approach and modality to provide client-centered therapy. During the academic year of working together, I learned from and leaned on Christina’s deep knowledge base of theory, case conceptualization, and honest feedback that was helpful to my growth. Through peer supervision, we engaged in thought provoking conversations that were challenging, edifying, and comprehensive. I still seek Christina’s professional and intuitive insight on challenging cases and benefit from her articulation and strong communication skills. Her background in education with her relationship oriented nature equipped her to deliver psychoeducation and provide therapy and advocacy in an effective manner. Beyond her outstanding professional skills, leadership, and having a growth mindset (which are important hallmarks of a mentor), Christina has a great sense of humor, is approachable, and relatable. Our patients easily connected with her for her ability to meet each one where they were at! I loved working with Christina and hope that one day we would work together again as her positive presence and her passion for helping, research, advocacy, and education are excellent assets to any team!
