  The Danish Deaf Sports Federation (DDI) is an independent federation under the Danish Sports Federation (DIF) with the Danish Handicap Sports Federation (DHIF) as our special federation. Deaf sports is organized as an independent association, as it is significantly different from both hearing sports and disability sports because of our language, Danish sign language. Rather, we are considered a linguistic minority group rather than a disability group. Similar to the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games for the disabled, deaf sports have a corresponding event under the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) - the Deaflympics, which is held every 4 years, is approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with Olympic status. There is also a corresponding Winter Deaflympics, which is shifted by 2 years. Show less
