  I specialize in celebrity portraiture, people and fashion for magazines and advertising agencies from around the world. As I have evolved (and certainly the business has) I have immersed myself in film making. Photographing people is my specialty and passion. In my spare time I frequently travel to far away places, or just stay local, in an effort to get to know the world and the people who inhabit it. Humanity and anthropology fascinate me.   BIOChristian Witkin lived in European and American cities with his artistic parents until he relocated to New York to embark on full-time study in photography at Syracuse University. There he ignited a passion for capturing the human spirit in photographs that he’s nurtured ever since. Witkin moved to New York City to grow his dream and assist the storied photographers Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber and Annie Leibovitz.It wasn’t long until Witkin launched his independent career with a series of street portraits that were commissioned by New York Magazine. From there, he received immediate accolades and recognition as an important and fresh voice in the photographic community and in the art world.Witkin aims to explore the light and dark places of the human psyche by stripping his subjects down of all baggage and artifice until what is before him is the pure essence of the subject. Achieving this intimacy with his subjects is something akin to catching them at their most vulnerable and introspective. This curiosity has taken him around the world where he embedded himself with a group of Thai transsexuals, traversed Ethiopian tribal societies and made numerous trips to India exploring all corners of the country and its many fascinating faces. Witkin’s work has been published in major magazines such as the New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. He has been commissioned to create landmark campaigns for Nike, IBM, GAP, Amex, RED, Microsoft and Shinola. Christian has received various awards for his personal and commercial work including the Society of Publication Designers Gold Award in Photography, as well as others from American Photography, Communication Arts and Photo District News. In 2018 Christian relocated to Los Angeles where he continues his passion for still photography. In addition he has begun directing shorts and tv commercials.
