How might we frame and capture value as social impact through design in our institution? Where can we improve in developing academic offerings that can best address business challenges in emerging enterprises. What looks like a pedagogical framework responding to those challenges and promoting learning across disciplines with emphasis on career readiness, innovation and collaboration. How do learners get prepared to create their own jobs and shape their jobs as they evolve and everything around them changes? How does project driven transdisciplinary collaboration increase an ecosystem ’s value and facilitate strategic innovation through Design? What incentivizes radical collaboration among Schools and Colleges, as well as facilitating an organizational learning structure more appropriate to the requirements of future dynamic workplaces? How might we inject design as a strategic tool that when mapped to diverse fields of study can detect latent opportunities and facilitate innovative processes?https://www.nyit.edu/bio/christian.pongratz Show less

    • Interim Dean School of Interdisciplinary Studies & Education, Professor of Architecture
      • Jun 2017 - Jun 2019

His interest is to foster collaboration among NYIT‘s programs and departments and formulate new transdisciplinary degree programs and projects engaging broad environmental, social and economic issues through the lens of design research, technology and ultimately materials. The goal is to build upon NYIT’s existing strengths in research and teaching in order to speculate on smart cities empowering everyone by leveraging making and personalized fabrication. We want to expand on platforms such as in robotics, automation, cybersecurity, the energy_food_water nexus or medical and smart devices and integrate big data visualization. His major interest in pursuing design thinking across disciplines is intended to drive innovation and transformative agency from within the school that is geared towards prototyping NYIT's new dynamic programs. Proliferating design into every aspect of the organization facilitates research on many levels of education and in broad transdisciplinary projects. The school spearheads applications of prototypes in communities and industry partnerships. Show less
