Chris is an amazing teammate to have in any group. He is a competent engineer and independent thinker who programs with a detailed eye. Furthermore, he is personable and a joy to work with.

Chris is one of the most well-regarded software engineers in my network. I worked with Chris on several functional programming projects in early 2021. He impressed me with his broad knowledge of functional JavaScript, ability to onboard new technology, and his skill in communication and collaboration within a team construct. Everyone around the office is in awe of Chris’s talent playing the game, Rhythm Doctor. To top it off, Chris’s agreeable personality make every meeting productive and fruitful. Chris would be an asset to any organization that wants a true thought leader to level-up the team.

      - Implemented OAuth using Google as a provider and Passport.js for middleware in order to achieve a better user and developer experience by expediting the sign-in and sign-up process delegating authentication and authorization.

      - Created tests for the Jest framework to increase code coverage and ensure the predictability and consistency of functions and objects using dependency injection for a reliable testing suite in a readable JavaScript testing framework.- Utilized the Enzyme testing utility to ensure that the state was updated as intended in addition to components rendering correctly by composing tests that verify a component’s implementation details.

      - Established a nonrelational database using MongoDB and Mongoose to store objects of arbitrary length as uniquely identifiable documents instead of using a relational database that would have required complex data modeling.- Effectively manipulated the DOM by utilizing the React library to create reusable stateful and stateless components that bundle behavior and UI, and ensure a unidirectional data flow that encourages modularity and performance.- Developed using the Node runtime to gain access to libraries available on npm and take advantage of the event loop in order to perform non-blocking operations. - Implemented React hooks as a form of state management by passing down hooks as props, allowing classless components to change and update state, reducing the overall complexity of the codebase, and therefore improving the maintainability and scalability.- Bundled the application using the Webpack build tool in addition to creating separate environments into production and development, enabling hot module replacement for a better developer experience.- Established a PostgreSQL database for reliable, persistent, and ACID compliant data retrieval and storage to be used across multiple devices and sessions, lending itself to the data that Enchiridion is modeled after. - Developed lightweight modules for the Deno runtime capable of real-time, bidirectional communication, abstracting the low-level server implementation needed to interface with packets by leveraging Deno’s standard library. - Reduced technical debt by writing in Typescript to ensure consistency of data passed to classes and exchanged from client to server, preventing unwanted behavior as much as possible. - Developed a client-side module using the WebRTC API for efficient video and audio communication implementation that abstracts the exchange of ICE candidates and SDP offers for a streamlined developer experience. - Used the WebSockets API as the basis for a server-side module capable of acting as a signaling server to be used in conjunction with WebRTC for event-based data exchange that updates as it happens in real-time over HTTP polling. - Incorporated the JSDoc markup language for writing documentation, promoting best practices such as commenting code and providing developers with insight into engineering decisions of the module, and following Deno’s style guide. - Developed in partnership with the tech accelerator OSLabs.
