MSHS, Mount Sinai South Nassau Capital Improvement Plan – J Wing Addition, Nassau County, NYProviding project management assistance on a $138 million project involving the construction of a four-story addition on the Oceanside campus of Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital. Part of the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS), the facility is in the midst of a $400 million, five-year capital improvement plan to become the network’s flagship hospital on Long Island. This work is partially funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) because the area suffered significant damage during Hurricane Sandy. The J-wing will nearly double the footprint of the Emergency Department and add nine Operating Rooms (two of which are hybrid ORs), 40 Critical Care patient rooms and a mechanical penthouse. The new addition will help meet projected medical needs for the entire South Shore of Nassau County, as the Emergency Department is currently undersized for the number of patients treated annually. Part of the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS), the facility is in the midst of a $400 million, five-year capital improvement plan to become the network’s flagship hospital on Long Island. This work is partially funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) because the area suffered significant damage during Hurricane Sandy. The new 23,000-sq.-ft., two-story CUP will feed the 455 bed, 500,000-sq.-ft. hospital campus with steam, chilled water, fire sprinkler water, and normal and emergency power. The new building will include a steel structure, a concrete roof on a metal deck, and precast façade panels. In addition to the CUP, the multi-phased major electrical system upgrades include adding a third redundant electrical service, updating the hospital’s entire underground 5kV distribution system, and installing two new electrical generators. The work is part of the firm’s program management services for the client’s Facilities and Project Management Offices. The 292-bed hospital, which treats approximately 170,000 patients annually, is part of the Montefiore Health System.He has also overseen other projects at the hospital, including the 2F Pathology Lab's renovation and construction of a new Physical Therapy Gym. Mr. Roodal worked closely with the hospital’s in-house staff to streamline and improve upon existing project request processes and oversaw furniture installations and minor renovations throughout the main hospital facility and offsite locations. Additionally, as part of response work for the recent COVID-19 outbreak, Mr. Roodal oversaw extremely fast-track departmental relocations and enabling work to create additional patient rooms and surge bays, in addition to infrastructure projects to aid the overall emergency response. Gateway Academic Center at Stevens Institute of Technology, one of the nation’s oldest and most distinguished private research universities. The $68 million complex includes two four-story buildings located at the intersection of Hudson and Sixth Streets in Hoboken. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, it houses 10 leading-edge laboratories, 11 new classrooms, and space for 45 offices. Working closely with the school’s Facilities and Operations Department, Mr. Roodal played an instrumental role during project completion, acting as an intermediary between college and community stakeholders. He reviewed the construction manager’s payment requisitions; served as a liaison between the client and third-party vendors; performed periodic analyses of the construction manager’s on-site workforce and productivity levels; established project tracking logs for deficiencies, punch lists, commissioning, and submissions to government agencies; and logged and distributed weekly progress meeting minutes to the client, design team, and construction manager.
