My role at Thomas Hardy saw me improve upon my investigative skills, requiring their use in both quality issues that arose and in the various audits that I conducted. As a member of the HACCP team it was my job to assist with annual BRC audits, regular customer audits and monthly internal audits. My IT skills were further developed as I was also in charge of the internal quality/ external customer databases, this often tasked me with liaising with our customers. I also assisted in the development of SOPs and implemented these across the production site.I was required to carefully manage my time between my microbiological duties and my QA responsibilities, which also included monthly Health & Safety audits. In addition I regulary covered shifts in the analytical lab. This gave me the opportunity to further develop my skills with methods of analytical chemistry such as gas/liquid chromatography and distillation.

I shifted from the pharmaceutical industry to the food science industry after being headhunted for a well-known brewery. My time was spent training under a lead Microbiologist and managing a small team of technicians. I developed an understanding of the brewery process and how to efficiently monitor quality at every process stage. My role also required me to monitor and re-order stock and validate/ improve on existing procedures. My time in the pharmaceutical industry enabled me to make many improvements around the laboratory and brewery, such as introducing PCR. I also joined the HACCP team and assisted in a range of audits, including yearly BRC audits. Additionally, I developed a course to teach the importance of quality to team members in all areas of the brewery and also participated in brewery workshops for children in the local area.

As a QC technician in a microbiology laboratory I was responsible for maintaining strict ISO standards in a vast GMP regulated factory as well as testing products for microbial contamination and overseeing their release to consumers.Skills I developed in my time at Boots include laminar flow and bench testing, microbial detection and identification, In-use raw material and water system monitoring, environmental surface and air monitoring, database upkeep and monthly report writing, housekeeping and audit preparation. While at Boots I also undertook courses in GLWP and in the effective training of staff.
