Bio
Keith Turnbull
I was Vice-President of the Board of Directors at Harcourt House Arts centre when Christal worked there as the Executive Directyor. She was dependable and creative - two very importantt attributes when managing an artist-run centre. I do not hestitate to recommend her highly.
Alison Hagan
Christal is a creative leader who loves a challenge and overcomes problems as they arise. Christal volunteered for the MS Society on the MS Walk committee for a number of years. I also know Christal personally and I have volunteered for her on a number of occasions. She is an extremely hard worker and she makes sure the job is completed properly. She is also a strong relationship builder and connects with people easily. Christal is very enthusiastic about any job she takes on. I know Harcourt House flourished under her leadership and guidance.

Fundraising Campaign Manager

Jun 2010 - Sep 2011
Managing tele-fundraising campaigns, which included managing a team of five - 25 people, client relations, developing fundraising strategies, and donor relations. Campaigns highlights include Legacy Giving for Children’s Hospital, acquiring/confirming $39M in legacy commitments in 11 weeks, and annual campaign for the 2010 Toronto Public Library Foundation, surpassing donor renewal and retention goals with a focus on monthly-giving strategies. As a well-organized leader committed to excellence I consistently surpassed fundraising targets and supervised and motivated employees to exceed goals and service delivery. Show less

Visual Arts Manager

2007 - 2009
I was responsible for researching, writing and presenting an Art in Public Places Policy for the City, and presenting reports for City Council and community stakeholders. As part of the Community Services team and on behalf of Mayor and community committees I planned and executed unveiling ceremonies and other special events including aspects of the Northern Alberta Children’s Festival and Lieutenant Governor Lois Hole’s commemorative sculpture. Delivering an event to recognize a much-loved Lieutenant Governor (the most popular in history) was the culmination of the production, placement and unveiling of a sculpture by an award-winning, nationally recognized artist and a prominent, highly visible philanthropic family. This project was the crowning jewel in the development of the Civic art in public places program. The event drew enthusiastic attendance and praise from a diverse audience including the municipal council and several cabinet ministers. Show less

Interpretive Programs Coordinator
-
2006 - 2007
I provided a broad-range of research, writing and grant and proposal development. I also designed exhibitions and exhibition materials including marketing materials, as well as a series of cards using the collection resources for fundraising and awareness. I was also the project leader for annual special events such as volunteer appreciation and Science Sunday. With access to the largest collection of academic, scientific and historic objects in North America, I delivered several exceptional exhibitions to highlight important aspects of the collection, including an exhibition of University President portraits as part of the UofA centenary celebrations and a rare Japanese print exhibition that was an integral component of several high-level fundraising campaign events and stewardship initiatives. Working in an office that was less than 20 feet away from the largest collection of extraterrestrial objects (outside of NASA) was an inspiration to consistently deliver excellence in research writing and design. My second year I worked directly with the coordinator of the Edmonton walk and along with my role of logistics volunteer, I looked after sponsorships and sponsor/contra relations for the event.
