Open Day
-
Jan 2019 - Jan 2019
I spent a morning learning about the firm's global scope and work across various sectors, such as construction and intellectual property. I also networked with some of the associates and trainees, who provided examples of key industry developments affecting their work. Lastly, I took a critical reasoning exercise that tested my logic and engaged in a client scenario where my team and I advised on the legalities associated with acquiring a loan through various methods, including using a special purpose vehicle. Vacation Scheme
-
Jul 2018 - Jul 2018
During my vacation scheme I sat in 4 different departments: Employment Law, Commercial and Technology Law, Media and Litigation and Family Law. In my first seat, I assisted with a draft bespoke home share agreement based on a lodger agreement precedent. I had to create a special conditions appendix with sections specific to the needs of individual guests. I also prepped an associate for a client meeting by ensuring the details outlined in their settlement agreement matched the letter of employment and met the minimum statutory requirements. In my next seat, I conducted research on cookies and drafted advice to a client on the requirements under the GDPR and the PECR. In my penultimate seat, I assessed the merits and weaknesses in our client's (and their opponent's) witness statements and attached exhibits in other to enforce their position during negotiation. In my last seat, I completed a draft divorce petition based on client's correspondence and wrote a commentary on the recent Owens v Owens ruling, analysing the current divorce laws. Show less

Summer Intern
-
Jun 2017 - Jul 2017
At this not-for-profit organisation that focuses on improving the business climate for SMEs in Africa, I spent a month as an intern and I was given a range of responsibilities however the following were standout experiences. Firstly, I curated presentation decks for investment summits, business partner pitches and networking events including the UK-Ghana Trade & Investment Forum 2017. I also wrote and published press releases on the company's website on client achievements and company statistics; this included investment received by SME's in Africa and the new branches the company has launched (i.e. Kenya). Following a succession of staff meetings with the agenda of widening the company's portfolio, I researched and initiated correspondence with potential investors and clients using Capital Finder: an online search tool to identify private capital and gain insights into the alternative finance industry. Legal Intern
-
May 2015 - Jun 2015
At this firm of solicitors and advocates boasting 20 years of experience in commercial litigation, contract law and corporate governance as well as contracts with international clients, I spent a month-long internship as a Client Relations Intern. My duties were focused on customer satisfaction and how the law firm provided legal services that were tailored to each clients' needs. I compiled weekly calendars for partners of meetings including associated correspondence, to ensure adequate time was given to each client. I also conducted business reviews to ensure client satisfaction with service and support. Lastly, I was responsible for screening drafts of contracts for basic typographical errors and unwarranted disclosure. Show less
