I worked closely with Chris during his time at MMI, and it was a real shame when his contract expired. I have always found Chris' work to be of an exceptionally high standard, with detailed notes taken and thorough research conducted with seeming ease. He demonstrated a excellent grasp of complex systems, speaking confidently about issues discovered, and working efficiently with developers and management to ensure minimum delay in highlighting risk and raising bug tickets. On a personal level, Chris is an amicable person. I found him very easy to get along with, and it was always a pleasure chatting with him at work. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chris, and would welcome the opportunity to work with him again in the future.

Languages used: C,C++, MFCDevelopment environments: Windows 2000, Windows CE.NET.; Engineer in the European Measurement Division, where I was involved in the design and development of an 802.11x one box test unit. I joined the project team at the feasibility stage of the project, with input into the requirements and the System analysis and design through Teamwork. Initially I conducted an investigation into which RTOS to use on the system, and some input into sourcing the PC104+ hardware to be used as the basis of the platform. My responsibilities include designing and developing the Windows front ends for the test system and for the control of the customers Unit being tested. These two parts of the system are being developed under Windows 2K using Visual Studio 6.I was also responsible for the software functionality for the 802.11 'Reference Radio' within the Test System. This also involved familiarisation with the IEEE WLAN Standards.I sourced and arranged three training courses for the software team. Configuration management was undertaken using winCVS.

Languages used: C and C++Development environments: UNIX on SUN platforms through exceedEngineer in the iFWA project, where I was involved in the maintenance and upgrade role of the Network Management Module in the iFWA base stations. The code was developed on the Motorola 68035 Power PC, using the VRTXsa RTOS and was written in C and C++, in a UNIX environmentDuring this time I was also involved in the integration testing, where I had to design some of the test spec's from the given test planBoth these positions involved configuring the base stations, from the E1 contact point through to the customers' termination point via the RF interface.I had to maintain and version control the software under Clearcase, within a UNIX environment.

Languages used: C and C++Development environments: Windows 95, NT and UNIX on SUN platforms through exceed; I started at MES as a Software Engineer, and was involved in the design and development of a universal simulator (STRAUSS); this piece of equipment was to simulate 'real' raw data into the DSP section of a weapon, and to receive processed data from the DSP section. This work was designed following the RTSASD methodology using Teamwork from Cadre, and implemented in C and ADI DSP 21060 assembler languages. For the next 18 months I was a software team leader involved in the design and development of the software for a piece of telemetry equipment. This piece of equipment is required to download programs to areas of memory, examine areas of memory, and to extract trials data from the weapon. The software was designed following the Shlaer Mellor OOA RD methodology, using I-OOA from Kennedy Carter, and was implemented using MS VC++ in an NT environment.A small amount of GUI work was undertaken for the purpose of testing the individual components. In both these projects I have been involved from the requirements stage of the development lifecycle. For these projects I have been on courses for the RTSASD, OOA RD, and for the VC++.I had input into the development of the requirements, design, and test documentation for both of these projects. For a short period I was involved in the development and business presentation for ClearQuest defect report and management, part of the Rational Rose suite of software tools.I then moved onto the RTS team, involved in inter CPU communications for the ADI DSP 2106X processor. The code for this task will be mainly written in C, within a UNIX environment. My duties also included the software configuration management using ClearCase for DASG functionality

Clydach Swansea.Training for Work Placement.Design and implementation of databases for process control data, for the Nickel refinery and for the quality control labs. The databases were designed using the Lotus and Microsoft database packages. The placement also included presentations to senior management, teaching the refinery staff how to access and input data to the databases, and teaching the plant manager how to extract information from the data.
