As a Foresight Mentor, my role is to increase the number of black heritage pupils progressing to top universities as a gateway to a more prosperous career. I mentor black heritage pupils at the GSCE level to encourage them to clarify their thoughts and goals and guide them to that outcome of getting into the next step of A-levels, then university. But also if they need specific guidance to grow in confidence and knowledge about whatever the future they want. Insight Mentor
-
Mar 2021 - Dec 2021
I help give an insight into the university lifestyle for BAME students in sixth-form/ college. To explain what it's like in the social and financial aspects and what useful advice I can give my mentees to prepare during the application process, how they can enjoy university, and so forth. Additionally, I would free bright black-heritage pupils of self-limiting doubts and empowers them with the confidence, knowledge, and an increased ability to navigate their path into top universities and professional careers. The Preparing for Social Science Mentoring Programme
-
Jun 2020 - Jul 2021
It's a pilot scheme working with local post-16 students (for example those studying A levels, BTECs or other Level-3 qualifications) to support their exploration of whether studying a social science subject is for them. Depending on what you have achieved at A-levels you can mentor students with either similar interests or who currently undergoing the same courses. I would either do: - 1:1 mentoring. Mainly online with a face-to-face student shadowing day - Support in workshops. This would involve being present in a subject taster or skills development sessions and working with small groups through the tasks set by the session lead. - Leading a subject workshop (independently or in a group) or delivering a student lifestyle presentation to younger pupils. I was the first person the customers met when they visited our restaurant. I created a fantastic experience for each one of them. As part of the Front of House team, I prepared meals and drinks and made sure to be friendly, welcoming and made the customers feel like they made the right choice to eat with us. I teamed with other colleagues to ensure that we delivered an environment our customers deserved. I addressed every customer concern with passion and in a timely fashion. I ensured that the restaurant always had a safe environment for our team and customers by adhering to all the Health & Safety and Food Safety guidelines. Show less
