Investigator - Intelligence Unit
-
Oct 2017 - Present
- Serves as an investigator in the Department’s Internal Affairs Office (Investigation Division). Responsible for investigating an array of staff misconduct, such as excessive use of force, staff arrests, or any conduct unbecoming a member of the DOC. - Regular duties include: Interviewing DOC officers and civilian employees who are represented by union attorneys, interviewing inmates and other witnesses, obtaining and reviewing documentary evidence such as surveillance video, inmate telephone call records and recordings. - A large part of my role as an investigator includes drafting preliminary and closing reports, in which I concisely summarize the evidence uncovered during the investigation, the factual findings and the analysis and reasoning employed to reach these findings, as well as my conclusions as to whether misconduct occurred. Depending on whether my investigation results in charges for the subject, I may be asked to testify at administrative tribunals. - In June of 2019 I was selected for the Intelligence Unit within the Investigation Division, a unit that handles the most confidential and sensitive investigations, often involving media attention and usually requiring collaboration with other investigative agencies, DOC’s agency attorneys, and Human Resources.
